Islamic Relief Response in Yemen

Islamic Relief is supporting a total of two million vulnerable people in Yemen. Our food distributions reach one million people and we also manage camps for displaced people in northern Yemen and provide medical and livelihood support.

Camps

We are currently managing the camps Mazraq 1 and Mazraq 3, where we assist and provide regular food to the 8,500 residents. We also run a community centre and the women’s centre in Haradh and provide food to the 3,000 residents of Mazraq 2 camp.

In Amran, we run the IDP Community Centre, which provides protection, monitoring and community services to displaced people all over the governorate who are not living in camps.

Health

This winter, 900,000 people received food packages to last them two months. Each family received flour, rice, beans, sugar and vegetable oil. Families with malnourished children in Lahj received an extra 10kg of high-energy biscuits.

We equipped five health centres in Al-Hodeidah with medicine and medical equipment and we distributed 50 hearing aids in Amran. We also delivered nutrition awareness to over 6,000 people, to help teach them about avoiding malnutrition and which foods are most nutritional.

Livelihoods

92 Yemeni families have been provided with practical means of generating an income. 35 families received cattle to rear for milk and breeding, 17 families were given saleable food to boost their trade and 40 women who are the providers of the household received sewing machines and cloth to create clothing and textiles. 20 families also received materials to make local beauty products and perfumes.

In the coming weeks 1,000 families will be provided with similar income-generation projects focusing on rearing cattle.
