The tsunami wiped out 800km of Indonesian coastline, killing more than 170,000 people and leaving over 500,000 homeless.
As northern Aceh slowly recovers from the tsunami’s devastating effects, thousands of people are still living in temporary accommodation and struggling to restart their lives.
So far, Islamic Relief has constructed more than 556 homes, 14 health clinics and 6 schools. In the village of Kajhu Indah, 152 destroyed homes have been rebuilt. A new water system and basketball court has also been constructed for the community.
