IR organises iftar for Syrian refugees in Lebanon
09 August 2012

Syrian refugees enjoying the iftar

Islamic Relief organised a special iftar in Lebanon, for Syrian refugees who escaped from violence in Syria. The iftar was a source of hope for them.

Maryam is a Syrian refugee who moved to Lebanon with her children. She said, “Since the beginning of Ramadan we haven't had proper food because we don’t have suitable kitchen tools, ovens or fridges. This iftar was the first time my children had proper food, cold water and juice. It was like the food that I used to cook in our home in Homs.”

“I am glad to see the joy in my children’s eyes as they participate in competitions and receive some presents. Alhamdulilah, they are finally having some good moments. I pray this kind of support continues until we are home when the situation calms down in Syria.”

Mohammed El-Waei, Islamic Relief Lebanon said, “This is the second iftar we organised for refugees and it was successful. The iftar food was various and we managed to deliver it hot. The event included recreational activities for the children to relieve the psychological impact of the violence, especially for those who lost their parents”.

A series of iftar events is planned for the fasting refugees.

Islamic Relief has been providing support to Syrians since May 2011, on the Syrian and Lebanon borders, offering food, subsidies for rent, blankets, and hygiene kits. Since June 2012, Islamic Relief has been providing medical aid inside Damascus.
