It is with deep sorrow and regret we announce the death of our colleague, Ahmad Mohamed Noor. Ahmed was working as a Project Coordinator in Baidoa, Somalia and had been instrumental in assisting with emergency responses. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends and colleagues. Our deepest condolences go out to Ahmad’s family.
Ahmad Mohamed Noor was shot and killed in a small village called Mursil by unidentified gunmen on Wednesday 9 May, as he was leaving the mosque after offering the evening prayers. The motive of the killing remains unknown.
Islamic Relief Somalia, East Africa Region (ESAR) team and the global Islamic Relief family mourn the sad and tragic incident while reaffirming their commitment to assisting those caught up in a calamity not of their own making. Islamic Relief remains committed to serving communities in need, irrespective of their clan background, geographical affiliation or political belief.
Islamic Relief started operating ad-hoc projects in Somalia in 1996 and has been fully registered since 2006, with five offices throughout the country. These include three in Somaliland and Puntland in the north, one in TFG-controlled Mogadishu in the south and a project office in Baidoa, to the north west of the capital. Islamic Relief is one of the largest humanitarian entities in Somalia, in terms of its investment and reach in different geographical units controlled by different authorities.
Islamic Relief programmes include emergency food and water distribution, health care, education and longer-term water, sanitation, livelihoods and drought resilience projects.
May Allah reward Ahmad Mohamed Noor with the highest place in paradise for his sacrifice, and grant patience to his loved ones through their immense grief. Ameen
