Islamic Relief becomes member of European body of NGOs

Islamic Relief has been welcomed as a new member of the European Confederation of Development and Relief NGOs (CONCORD), which will serve to substantially enhance its position as a valued partner in the development and formation of EU policy.

CONCORD represents over 1,600 NGOs and co-ordinates a variety of discussion forums and advocacy campaigns with EU institutions and civil society organisations in pursuit of its vision to 'ensure that all the earth’s citizens live a life of dignity and enjoy full rights to development'.
 
“We see this as an exciting opportunity to work alongside fellow NGOs to influence relief and development policy and practice at the European level in order to better serve poor people across the world, ” said Yasmin Hussein, Islamic Relief’s Communications Director.
 
Islamic Relief were welcomed by CONCORD’s senior management after being elected as a member during the confederations General Assembly in Brussels.
 
“Islamic Relief Worldwide’s participation in CONCORD would enrich the Confederation at many levels,” said Justin Kilcullen, President of CONCORD, while its senior manager, Andreas Vogt, said that Islamic Relief’s election was “a tremendous expression of trust in Islamic Relief”.
 
As a member of CONCORD Islamic Relief looks forward to this new opportunity as a chance to share its unique faith-based approach to aid relief and development work in the discussion and formation of ongoing EU policy.
