Islamic Relief is an international Non-Government Organisation (NGO) that was established in Birmingham, UK in 1984. It seeks to promote sustainable economic and social development by working with local communities through relief and development programmes.

In addition to emergency relief our programmes cover sustainable development, emergency relief and Orphan Support. Our focus areaa are: Afghanistan, Albania, Bangladesh, Bosnia, Egypt, Kosova, Indonesia, Iraq, Mali, Pakistan, Palestine, Sudan and Chechnya.

Islamic Relief has consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (special category), signatories to the code of Conduct for the international Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and NGO's Disaster Relief, and members of British Overseas NGOs for Development (BOND).

Head of Region

We are currently recruiting for Head of Region, International Programme Division based at our Headquarters in Birmingham. Reporting to the International Programme Director, the person will be responsible to develop and deliver IRW regional portfolio of programme work to maximise IRW impact on realising the rights of vulnerable groups and to contribute to IRW global impact. He/she will be expected to work closely with their team members; develop and maintain personal links with external relevant senior regional representatives in donors, UN bodies, other INGOs etc and to represent IRW on relevant issues in international and UK media as required. Surge Capacity Coordinator

We are recruiting for a Surge Capacity Coordinator to be part of IRW’s Humanitarian Department. The main purpose of the position will be to facilitate the delivery of emergency programmes, improve surge capacity; working with the additional emergency response teams to efficiently respond to emergencies in a timely and effective manner, reporting and compliance with Institutional Donors and IR partners. The person will also focus on the capacity building in areas such as DRR, programme management, food security, protection and financial management.  Context   Guided by the illustrious record of Waqf in Islamic civilization, Islamic Relief started its WAQF programme in 2000, and has a designated department that: 
  • Promotes WAQF within the organization
  • Maintains records of donations received and makes annual calculations of returns
  • Manages the distribution of returns between projects
This study ideally should help with the design of 5 years marketing strategy for the department.   Key Objectives   To contribute in improving Islamic Relief's effectiveness and accountability to donors and beneficiaries, through Improving its marketing approach for WAQF programme. This can be done through looking at the existing marketing approach and advice on the new marketing approaches/models that needs to be adopted in line with the different suggested models of WAQF with specific focus on: 
  • Strategic marketing approaches
  • Communication methods with donors (individuals and institutions)
  • Chanel strategy (the best channels for getting the promotions to the potential donors).
The final product will be a comprehensive study of the programme marketing approach that includes a practical set of recommendations for designing 5 years marketing strategy.
