Abedullah’s story
Abedullah Abu Magseeb and his family live in the Wadi el Salqa village in Palestine’s Gaza Strip. Their home stands half-built and the family are unable to complete the necessary work due to financial reasons.
Though Abedullah has a master’s degree in Arabic and Islamic studies he is unable to find work because of his age.
“My family has no income because no-one is working. I depend only on charitable organisations for survival.”
Abedullah is like any other father; he wants the best for his children. One of his daughters just graduated from high school. She is very bright and wishes to study at university, but the money is not available. Abedullah is determined to secure a scholarship for her.
“I became aware of Islamic Relief when the municipality came to my house to inform me that they [IR] were offering me a food parcel and that I had to go and get it. Honestly I was happy because it is the first organisation that knocked on my door to offer something. Usually I have to go and spend hours visiting NGOs to ask them for help.”
The food parcel provided enough food for the family to eat for one month.
“It is a very good package and it is a kind scheme from Islamic Relief,” said a newly cheerful Abedullah.
