Overview
The Khan Younis refugee camp in Palestine is heavily populated
with many houses built close to each other.
An average household consists of 8 people, placing great demand
on the limited water supply.
This project will upgrade the water system and Aya water well
in the Khan Younis refugee camp, which is currently inadequate
for the population.

Problem
/ Project Background
The Khan Younis water system was not designed for such
a large population and consequently water is in short supply.
Many houses suffer from water shortage for days at a time,
contributing to illness and disease.
There is an urgent need to address water shortages in order
to improve living conditions.

Goal

Upgrade the water system in Khan Younis refugee camp

Connect 250 homes with water pipelines

Upgrade the Aya water well

Create local employment (approximately 700 working days)

Project
Activities
A steering committee will be formed
to manage and supervise the projects. The committee will consist
of:
Khan Younis Municipality will provide the architecture, design
and all technical support.
Coordination between Islamic Relief and Khan Younis Municipality
is intended to ensure successful completion of the projects.
It is important to consider that economic blockades may pose
difficulties for the purchase of construction materials.
Beneficiaries
The project will help 10,000 refugees living in Khan
Younis refugee camp, as well as 250 families. In addition
the project will create job opportunities for the local population.
