Problem
/ Project Background
During recent civil unrest and major change in power,
the Education Directorate (ED) in Afghanistan was forced to
close the schools and the directorate's institutional capacity
deteriorated rapidly.
Due to return of peace and stability in the province, the
provincial government has opened 40 schools in Kandhar city
and its surrounding areas. Out of the total schools, 35 are
primary.

Activities
The primary education infrastructure of Kandhar city and suburb
areas has been rehabilitated and is functional.

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kandhar Education
Directorate/provincial authorities for establishing partnership.

Selection of primary schools and identification of infrastructure
improvement needs.

Tendering process

Certification of completion of repair work

Scoping and operationalising capacity building strategy.

Recalling or hiring of primary school teachers and other
professional and support staff.

Establishing examination and certification procedures
in primary schools.

Beneficiaries
The main beneficiaries of the project are students,
parents, teachers and Education Directorate of Kandhar province.
In total 40 schools will benefit from the project.
