Problem
/ Project Background
The continuous civil conflict of 23 years forced teachers
to migrate or change their profession. There was a significant
gap in teachers' training courses.
The Kandahar Teachers Training School is one of the most important
institutions providing teachers to five southern provinces
of Helmand, Zabul, Urazgan, Ghazni and Kanahdar.
The school was built in 1962. In 1970 the school was upgraded
and became the Institute of Higher Training.
Project
Objectives
The long term objective of the project is to ensure availability
of trained teachers for primary and secondary classed in Helamnd,
Zabul, Urazgan, Nimroz and Kandahar Provinces.
In the short term, the project would contribute towards brining
the atmosphere of stability and peace in Kandahar and would
help KED to start refresher courses for primary and secondary
school teachers, both male and female.
