Ramadan food aid

Every year during the month of Ramadan, Islamic Relief delivers thousands of food parcels to some of the poorest communities around the world. These parcels provide immediate relief to people who are suffering from food shortages by giving them and their families enough food for one month.

Last year we distributed food parcels in 25 countries from Egypt to Ethiopia, Sri Lanka to Sudan. The parcels reached more than half a million vulnerable people including widows and orphans, the elderly and people with disabilities, giving them enough food with which to break their fast every day.

70-year-old Khamrun Apa from Karnataka, India was one of the many women who received a food parcel last year. She lives alone and barely makes enough money for one meal a day, but the food parcel she received ensured she had enough to last her a month. To read her story click here.

Islamic Relief’s Ramadan food distributions complement our longer-term programmes that aim to give people sustainable sources of food and assistance during times of food shortages. To read about our work to tackle food insecurity click here.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“He who breaks another’s fast earns the same reward as the one who fasted without diminishing the latter’s reward in the slightest.” (Tirmidhi)
