What is Islamic Relief doing?

We run a variety of different projects around the world that aim to provide short term and long term solutions to the problem of hunger.

In countries such as Kenya and Ethiopia we provide emergency food aid to meet people’s immediate needs. During very acute food shortages we also run supplementary and therapeutic feeding centres that provide high energy food and healthcare to severely malnourished people.

In Bangladesh, 45 per cent of children are underweight and the problem is even more acute amongst vulnerable groups such as refugees. Islamic Relief runs a camp for Rohingya refugees in southern Bangladesh where malnutrition remains an enormous challenge. To read about the work of our feeding centres in this camp click here.

At the heart of our efforts to reduce food shortages is the need to provide people with sustainable incomes. We provide communities with agricultural training, equipment, tools and interest-free loans to start small scale businesses with the aim of assisting communities to become self reliant so they no longer need food aid. To read about how one community in Pakistan-administered Kashmir is now able to produce their own food thanks to Islamic Relief’s support, click here.
