INDONESIA
Prone to natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions and earthquakes and with a turbulent history of sectarian tensions and violence, fifty percent of all Indonesians live on less than $2 a day and around 27 percent live below the poverty line.
Due to a large population and rapid industrialisation, environmental issues such as pollution and large-scale deforestation have become a serious problem.
IR began seasonal food distribution in Indonesia in 2000. We opened a field office in Jakarta in 2003.
IR was one of the first aid agencies on the ground in the aftermath of the December 2004 tsunami and we were a major contributor to the post-tsunami reconstruction work.

IR Indonesia was presented with this certificate in recognition of its reconstruction and rehabilitation work in the areas worst-affected by the 2004 tsunami.
The award was presented by the president of the Republic of Indonesia on behalf of the people of Indonesia.
