An Islamic Relief (IR) convoy of
humanitarian aid has arrived safely in Baghdad. The
convoy of sixteen trucks left Islamic Relief’s
warehouse in Amman, Jordan on the 14th of May and
arrived in Baghdad the next day.
The trucks were loaded with food,
medicine, clothes, blankets, tents, Emergency Health
kits, and other essential relief items.Four of the
trucks also carried relief goods for other organisations.
Orphans
Two orphanages in Baghdad and Kerbala received
food and clothes over the weekend. There were also
some toys for the orphans, who are amongst the most
vulnerable people in Iraq.
Further distributions are planned once final needs
assessments have been completed to ensure that the
aid reaches those most in need.
IR’s Iraq office has been assisting three
orphanages in Baghdad with food provisions on a
weekly basis to see them through this emergency
period.
Life-Saving Aid
The priorities for IR’s Iraq Disaster Project
are to carry out life-saving programmes to provide
war-affected people with food, shelter, and medicine
- their most immediate needs.
