| Distribution in Gloucester |
Islamic Relief this week distributed 5000 litres of water in flood ravaged Gloucester and surrounding areas. With upto 350,000 people affected, Islamic Relief worked with the local council and community to distribute water to hospitals, nursing homes and community centres.
Only enough for human consumption
Due to limited supply, the water is currently being used for human consumption. The next challenge facing the local authorities is that of providing adequate sanitation facilities.
Jehangir Malik the UK Acting Manager of Islamic Relief said:
“I have been to different regions of the world such as Africa and Asia with Islamic Relief to provide water. I never imagined that I would be doing so within the UK”.
Working alongside local authorities, Islamic Relief is actively monitoring the situation to ascertain the need on the ground, and therefore to act accordingly.
Further assistance needed
Mr. Mahmood Patel, Chair of the Barton and Tredworth Community Trust, thanked Islamic Relief on behalf of the community and has asked for additional assistance, as persistent rain is more than likely to cause further flooding.
Islamic Relief appreciates local help
Islamic Relief wishes to extend their appreciation to Cllr. Sonia Louise who overlooked and coordinated the distribution. We also appreciate the help of Mr. Mahmood Patel and the other unsung heroes in the community for their efforts.
Please donate
