Cyclone Yemyin Lashes Pakistan

NATURE’s fury has once again been unleashed upon an unsuspecting and unprepared population.  Cyclone Yemyin has affected more than 900,000 people in the Balochistan and Sindh regions of Pakistan, with 200,000 being left homeless after the onslaught.  This comes only days after a storm battered the city of Karachi, killing 230 people.

Cut off from help

Turbat, a region in Balochistan, has been cut off from aid since the storms hit.  30 villages are under water, and others are in severe danger if a local dam should give way. People have been living without food and water for days.

Clinging to trees

People have been found clinging to trees as flood waters rise.  Many have evacuated to higher ground or taken shelter in local mosques.  Dozens of villages are submerged under water.

Infrastructure destroyed

Roads, bridges, and railway lines have been washed away, making it extremely difficult to deliver humanitarian aid. Helicopters have been grounded due to the intensity of the rainfall and reservoirs are overflowing.

Islamic Relief is on the ground

Islamic Relief's ground staff is tirelessly working to bring aid to these people in need.  We initially allocated £15,000 to help; but have since raised a further £100,000.  This will only help a fraction of the people affected, so we need people to continue donating so we can offer even more help.

Food and drinking water needed urgently

The most urgent need is to provide those affected with food and clean drinking water, which they have been without since the floods hit.
Once the urgent needs of the people are met, Islamic Relief will look to cater for their longer term needs.
