Ante-Natal Care in El-Obeid

Africa evokes images of displaced and starving people barely able to scratch an existence.  These vital funds are therefore to be used in Amdam district of Eastern Chad to help 2000 refugee families, and 1000 host families.

The project will provide shelter, blankets and other non-food items; as well as promoting good health amongst the population.  It will also aim to provide livelihood support by distributing the equipment necessary to develop communities.

Mobilising Communities

By mobilising and engaging with communities, Islamic Relief UK has also been raising funds through various interestingand daring means.  Volunteers climbed Mount Everest; others climbed Snowdon.  Some people skydived, preferring a more daring approach to raising money.  One group is now planning to cycle from Istanbul to Mecca!

Islamic Relief has not only been providing aid but has also engaged in advocacy and campaigning; all of which have formed part of its current ‘Action4Africa’ campaign.

Recognition of Islamic Relief’s Work

The organisation feels that the award is recognition of its hard work on behalf of, and its dedication to some of the worlds most deprived people.

Jehangir Malik, UK Manager of Islamic Relief says:

“Crisis has sadly become a very familiar term for us all as we move from one disaster to the next.  The most vulnerable are often children sleeping in their mothers arms one night, and finding themselves alone the next.  But these people don’t need charity; they need investment.  This award of £500,000 towards Islamic Relief’s work in Darfur & Chad will allow us to further invest in these people’s futures”.
