School collects unwanted clothes for Bangladesh Cyclone Victims

ENTERPRISING students at St Albans C of E School in Highgate, Birmingham have collected a huge amount of clothes in aid of the Cyclone victims in Bangladesh.

Atiqur Rahman; Mohammed Alam; Mohammed Ishaq; Koyrul Islam; Fahad Mohammed; Uzzal Ahmed; Shahbaaz Sultan; and Haroon Mohammed, were all concerned enough by the humanitarian crisis in Bangladesh to get up and make a difference.

Islamic Relief has run a clothes recycling operation since 1992. Clothes received are sorted and then sold; with all profits going to help those most in need.

Birmingham-based international relief charity, Islamic Relief, was yesterday invited to pick up the clothes from their school. 



Hamayoon Sultan, Development Education Co-ordinator at Islamic Relief said:


“The concern that these boys showed for the welfare of suffering people half way across the world is extremely touching.  They clearly felt that they could make a difference, and set about trying to make things better.

Their efforts are greatly appreciated, and will contribute greatly to Islamic Relief’s work in Bangladesh and elsewhere.”



Clothes recycling

Islamic Relief has run a clothes recycling operation since 1992.  Clothes received are sorted and then sold; with all profits going to help those most in need.


Such an operation has the benefit of cutting out the costs of transporting clothes across the world.  Islamic Relief therefore buys what people would need locally; ensuring that not only do the poor receive clothes that they would wear, but their local economy is also supported.



How to give unwanted clothes to charity

Islamic Relief has clothes banks situated around the country, where people can leave their unwanted clothes. Alternatively, any unwanted clothes can also be left at the Islamic Relief charity shops in Birmingham, Glasgow, Bradford, Manchester, Leicester, or in London.
