ISLAMIC RELIEF EVENT
Countdown begins to Cycle Relief 2007

20/07/07

Birmingham will get a flavour of the Tour-de France this August when Cannon Hill Park plays host to Cycle Relief 2007.

The Venue:
Canon Hill Park, Birmingham

Monday 27th August
9.30am Start

Food stalls and family entertainment available on the day

Organised by Islamic Relief, the event will help to raise money for water projects around the world and will help those suffering from the deadly effects of climate change.

The challenge will take place at 9.30am on Bank Holiday Monday August 27th 2007 and will be held in conjunction with a climate change rally being held by Christian Aid.  The Birmingham leg of a 1000 mile ‘Cut the Carbon’ march begins at 1.30pm on the same day.

Food stalls, entertainment and guest speakers promise to make the day a fun filled event for all the family.

Muhammad Imran, the Development Education Co-ordinator for Islamic Relief said:

“There are many defining issues of our time, but climate change is most definitely at the top of the list.  Everyone is talking about it.  This event aims to not only to reinforce what people know about the issue, but also to raise money for those around the world who have done the least to contribute to climate change, but who are suffering the most”.

A family occasion

Last year’s Cycle Relief event proved to be a huge success. This year’s theme is climate change, and Islamic Relief is hoping people of all backgrounds will hop on their bikes and cycle for charity.

By taking part, you can promote environmental awareness, you can get fit and you can also raise money for charity.  Not bad for spending a day on a bike!
