Ethiopia / Overview
Islamic Relief in Ethiopia
Islamic Relief (IR) began working in Ethiopia in 2000, responding to the severe droughts in 2000, 2001, 2002. After years of emergency relief in Ethiopia, an office was officially opened in January 2004.
East Africa suffered from the first famine of the 21st century in 2011. Islamic Relief is rebuilding livelihoods post-crisis - restocking cattle, rehabilitating and building wells, reservoirs and boreholes and providing micro-finance loans and vocational training,
IR is also implementing long-term development projects. These projects include education, health, water and sanitation, livelihoods and food security.
