Islamic Relief in India

Islamic Relief (IR) has been working with local organizations in India since 1994. Projects include orphan sponsorship, livelihoods and seasonal Ramadhan and Qurbani food distributions. Islamic Relief has also responded to Emergencies in India including recent floods in Gujarat, Bihar and Assam.

Islamic Relief supported a Vocational Training Program for women in Hubli, Karnataka in 2008, training 120 women for jobs and self-employment.

IR has also carried out emergency relief projects following the 2001 Gujarat Earthquake, floods in Gujarat in 2006 and 2007, in Bihar in 2007 and 2008 and Assam (2008).

Currently, Islamic Relief Worldwide is implementing a project titled “Improving Education amongst Underprivileged Communities in Urban Poverty Zones of Western Uttar Pradesh, India.” The project grant of € 400,000 was awarded by the EU Development Cooperation and is being implemented by our partners Grassroots India Trust in Aligarh, Meerut and Moradabad Districts of Western Uttar Pradesh in India.

Islamic Relief India was registered in 2008 as a Section-25 Not-for-profit Company under the Indian Companies Act. It is currently working on small projects such as Child Welfare and Education with local funds.
