Zakat Questions and Answers
Example: Zayd's wealth first reached the nisab threshold on the 21st of Rabi al-Awwal 1424, making Zakat payment obligatory twelve lunar months later. However two months later, Zayd spends some of his money, bringing his total wealth below the nisab threshold.
A few months later he manages to save some money bringing his total up to the nisab again. On the 21st of Rabi al-Awwal 1425, Zayd will pay zakat on his total wealth, just as if he had possessed the whole amount for twelve months.
My wealth decreased below the nisab for a few months during the year, do I still pay zakat?
As long as you are in possession of wealth above the Nisab threshold at the beginning and end of the zakat year, zakat will be payable, even if your wealth dipped below the nisab for most of the year.
